Hurley Care Recommendations

When customers receive their hurleys from us , so that they get the maximum longevity of use with their hurley it is important that hurleys are stored and cared for properly when not in use

At Fitzgerald Hurleys we manufacture two types of hurleys that are from 100% natural ash timber

  • Traditional Ash Hurley
  • Elite-Hurl

We recommend the exact same care to both types of hurleys which is

Avoid any heat source so ,Do not store your hurley in the boot of a car, near radiators, inside windows or on floors with underfloor heating ,etc…

You must also avoid  the hurley from gaining any unnescary moisture such as leaving your hurley outdoors to different variations of weather. We do not recommend soaking the hurleys in water for any length of time

The reason for all this is at our workshop we dry the hurleys to the correct moisture content so therefore afterwards if ash hurleys get too dry or too wet it can cause the fibres in the ash timber to expand or contract causing the timber to weaken and possibly hairline crack

So the best place to store your hurley is in a cool ,dry well ventilated area

We recommend that when customers receive their hurley to use it sparingly for the first couple of weeks ,by just pucking the ball with team mates or against a wall to give the fibres in the hurley a chance to bind together and make them stronger and then after them few weeks start using your hurley in competitive environments

  • Please Note

We strongly advise customers to choose either a medium or heavyweight hurley when purchasing from us.The reason for this is the fibres in light weight ash hurleys are not as strong and they can break a lot easier than either medium or heavy weight hurleys. It is totally up to our customers if they still want to purchase a light weight hurley but Fitzgerald Hurleys will not be responsible for any breakage
